Part of the waking up process is accepting and getting over the "you been lied too." Personally when I heard about the 911 conspiracy. It took me some time to comprehend it and accept that I was lied too. It doesn't take years for this but it may take weeks or months and we have to keep hammering the message so they dont go back to sleep.
