Someone who has done their time shouldn't be given their gun rights back with their voting rights? Because felons lose the right to vote in most states as well, at least until they're off probation/parole/supervision.
This also includes Non-violent felons. Many financial crimes are felonies as well. In many states just being charged with a felony will pretty much prevent you from acquiring a firearm in the future, even if the charge is dismissed.
Back in the early days, say 1790-ish through the early 20th century, if you were arrested and convicted, the property you had on your person was held while you served your sentence, and then returned to you upon your release. No rights were taken, since only our Creator has that authority. That is how it should still be.
