What better way to bring Americans together on something we can all agree to love? Please fill the skies with smoke. Please dine on delicious seared flesh. Please gather all of your friends, all of your family, all of your neighborhood, all of your coworkers together to feast on this beautifully-placed new American Summer holiday!

What was born of division and chaos will be co-opted into a celebration of our commonality as Americans.

This and every Juneteenth going forward shall be declared the National Day in Celebration of Barbecue.

They want us to wear sackcloth and ashes and rend our garments over the horrors of slavery. We're taking it away from them to honor the half-million or more Americans who gave their lives to abolish it forever.
