No. You can directly register them by transferring them to ComputerShare. Not financial advice. I know of no risk registering your shares but leaving them with a broker could expose your shares to fuckery.
From what I understand, which is very little, when your shares are held at a broker, they're in street name, which means that if you have shares at Schwab, Schwab's name is on the shares, acting as your custodian for them.
When they're directly registered in your name at Computershare, your name is on the shares, and Computershare is physically holding them for you. You can buy and sell through Computershare, but on their timeline, which is weird. The company buys and sells in batches on Friday or something.
It's definitely safer to have them DRSd. Oh and when the shares hit your account, ask them to switch your shares from plan to book. I don't know the reason, but I trust the guys on Superstonk. They've done unbelievable research since the sneeze, truly professional-level research to learn why things are the way they are, and how to either change or go around.
Is there any risk to registering them?
