Of course calling the US a republic is an assault on democracy, as the essence is a Constitution PROTECTING individual rights instead of a democracy where rights are subject to political convenience (national security, public health, public morals, pubic order)
But more to the point: it is an assault on THEIR DEMOCK CRAZY.
