…and he served two years in the army early in his career when his career was just beginning to rise. If he played in the MLB in those years, he might have retired close to Ruth’s numbers.
...Bob Feller ala "Rapid Robert" falls into that same category...

#1 on my list is Ted Williams. Can you imagine what his numbers would have been if he had those six years on the diamond? I met Bob Feller at a local baseball show when I was a young man. If he had those four seasons m he could have finished with 300 wins and passed Walter Johnson in K’s.

I remember when the Giants stadium opened. There is a statue of him on front of it and at the unveiling, they announced the address as 24 Willie Mays Plaza. He was so surprised and humble.
