Track Defense Expenditures and New Equipment rollouts.
Since 2020 Dozens of countries have been announcing massive armaments program or announcing their intentions to begin such programs as soon as financially able. Several have shelved plans for force draw downs. And the programs are To the tunes of billions of dollars. Which for some of the countries involved is a large portion of their GDP. The Ukraine fiasco only intensified this. But if you look at the timeframes of the programs 5 years, 10 years, 15 etc.
That’s not the attitude of countries who think WW3 is about to break out any day. But people planning for a conflict in the future. And I think the Defense Department is using it as justification to make public black projects. And to begin spinning up industry.
We went from Public Laser Weapons being semi-reliable massive ungainly test beds as late as 2019. To viable Vehicle mounted Systems in 2022-2023. Gauss Rifles are rapidly being iterated into viable infantry weapons and not expensive toys. F-35 already has replacements in the works. Countries all over the world are introducing new Jets, Tanks, Military Robots etc. New Classes of Ships and Missiles. Overhauls and Upgrades to existing equipment. Europe finally questioning the Pacifistic malaise it’s lived under post WW2. Another rumor about the potential revival of “Big Gun” warships.
And it is also worth noting. Russia while voicing immense diplomatic protest and Saber rattling. Didn’t seem to truly act to oppose Swedish or Finnish entrance into NATO. To anywhere near the degree they threatened. Beyond a handful of obligatory plausible deniability cyber shenanigans. In fact the biggest roadblock was Turkey. Which suggests Russia isnt anywhere near as concerned about NATO on their border as they want people to believe they are.
Seems like this whole thing is designed to keep the general population looking one way. Using the existing notions, political and conspiratorial biases, and lingering feelings about the Cold War. While the real threat is actually something else entirely.
