In libs twisted minds, it's a dichotomy of either you "support women's rights", or you're helping turn everything into The Handmaid's Tale. Seems a pretty good example of psychological splitting, actually. They rationalize that the fact there can be more than one opinion means that people are being oppressed in those backwards hillbilly states and have to be set right by the intervention of their "superior" thinking (moral relativism).
