As an engineer I'm shocked at the shoddy logic underpinning this measurement. Grocery items frequently go on sale buy one get one free and sometimes even more (Meijer sells Lays Stax for $2.59 regular price, but this week they're 3 for $5 and earlier this month they were $1 each if you bought 7 or more qualifying items). So he could repeat the same test next week and the week after and his totals would be bouncing all over because of sale prices.
Is there inflation? Absolutely, but it varies wildly based on the product and the timing of when you buy it. Based on his methodology I could claim 0% inflation because I bought Lays Stax on sale pre-Covid for the same $1 as I did earlier this month. or I could claim negative inflation because my parents had to replace a 32" TV I bought for them about a decade ago. They paid $99.99 at Best Buy for the replacement, a fraction of what I paid, and they got a better TV, with 1080p instead of 720p and they also got a built in Fire stick.
An an engineer I think that you, as an engineer, sound like you enjoy the odor of your own flatulence a little too much. There was no "shoddy logic." He didn't say he invented a new CPI or claim that there was "logic underpinning this measurement." He didn't even mention inflation.
It's just a guy saying that if he were to reorder his walmart order, it would be much more expensive now. It's notable. Relax, Poindexter. You sound vaccinated.
Unless everything he bought in the original order was on sale, and isn't now, I'm not too worried about it. This is but one anecdotal example, but it's probably a pretty fair representation of reality.
Nice to see a logical, rational argument countering this.
Yes, of course we've had bad inflation the past few years. But this is not any sort of reliable indicator of the rate of inflation. He could click that same button the week before Thanksgiving and get a total lower than the one from two years ago.
Thank you, and I can see from our ratios on this topic that people aren't interested in a rational discussion, they're fine with the irrational propaganda as long as it is in the political direction they want it to be.
is anyone here shocked?? im not

I've had the same experience. It's unfortunate.
