I had wrote a long response to explain many of the changes that occurred. It timed out after I had wrote a long explanation....
to summarize all of these "visitors" used to have to be legally here and become LPR's then wait 5 years. DACA are not eligible for benefits either. The new work around that was started recently is to label them "refugees" and make them eligible for all government benefits on the day they cross the border.
DACA have been here for several years and are not eligible... all the new tidal wave ARE loading up on tax paid free everything on day 1. Just need to have a stamped document. Basically catch and release that have been recorded as entered and given a parole date (5 years out) get tons of benefits. Help with housing, medical, free cash, and food stamps. I had seen a family get 1700 monthly in just food stamps. They get social security numbers, state id cards too. 100% all free if coming from Haiti, Cuba, Ukraine, and a few others. Most from Mexico don't get anything and still have to go the legal route.
Disheartening to hear. Is this in NC?
Yes.
