Agreed it looks as if he was shot from behind, had to be on high from above the folks in the stands behind him. Too much confusion right now so we'll need to wait for more info.

Edit: From on high, but a rooftop far off to the side, actually he was shot from the front as his face was turned towards where the sniper was.
