That is an incredible idea. Many retirees are poll workers & volunteer. This would really solidify commitment & help those seniors who could use the break. Of course, if everything collapses like 1929 and very few have money more of us could be in that predicament.
Bring it up to your state representative (for your precinct) or your state senator (at least we have two houses in Utah).
Ask them if there is an attorney in the capitol that reviews & can help you draft a bill. You put forth the legwork (ie write it up). That attorney looks it over to make sure it is technically correct (ie won't get bounced out for unknown process rules). Then take it to your state reps & let them know that it is ready to get votes because you already did their work for them.
This is the best way to get your reps to help you out, since they don't need to do the research or work writing the bill. They just need to promote it with you.
Also take it to various grass roots clubs & groups to show others that this bill is ready to be voted on to & get them behind the idea too. Rotary clubs, John Birch Society, Kiwanas Clubs, Eagle Forums, etc...
