Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Yeah, migraine really sucks (thats putting it mildly). Good luck my fren.
Perhaps you could try propranolol. It does help with migraines. It requires an RX but is a relatively inexpensive med.
Prevention is also helpful. Avoiding aged cheeses, cheddar cheese, red wine, chocolate (esp dark) and too much caffeine. Avoid msg!!! Too much bright light is a trigger- use shades wherever possible outdoors. Avoid heavy exercise for prolonged periods. Too little sleep can be a trigger, as well. Stay hydrated with water. Avoid excess alcohol, since I think basically it messes with your sleep cycle.
You mentioned monthly migraines and this is an actual hormonally related condition. They’re called “menstrual migraines” and could be triggered by hormone fluctuations. I’ve researched migraines a lot- Propranolol is a very effective treatment of all sorts of types of migraine conditions. Mine is TBI related and absolutely nothing helps more than twice daily propranolol. I had tried everything but avoiding the triggers is very important. It’s been a miracle.
Another important thing is to notice the aura or inklings the migraine is coming and get into a dark room, try to reduce all stimulation for a few hours. Blue light from computer work can make it much worse. The idea is to help keep it from becoming full blown. 2 Tylenol and 2 aspirin help a lot at that time but basically do nothing if it’s full blown. It’s much harder to treat a full-on migraine than it is to head it off at the beginning. I’ve always noticed an increase amount of energy right before a migraine hits. Like, you’re having a fantastic, extended workout and then bam.... so pay attention to that.
Sorry she is going through this but there are ways to deal with it that will help tremendously. Consider the propranolol for daily use but it also can be used as needed only. It’s great for ptsd, as well. It’s a beta blocker. Non narcotic.
