For everything I do, I usually require that the client setup a jump box that I connect to that has all the tools/apps I need to do my work. If I was running a command over a local client access protocol and the connection was disrupted, the command would end, and that would not be good.
There may be Linux apps to do same thing, but the time it would take me to install them, and become proficient with them (figure them out), I don't want to have to screw with them.
Look at the screen utility on Linux
man screen
I mostly use screen but I hear tmux is the new and better version. It’s just too complicated for me and I only want a single window
