If shtf.. who will be checking licenses?
i plan to get one soon, but just fire it up for a test with no license. Then when shtf just fire it up to use.
Reminds me of this Far Side comic:

My husband kekked out loud...a classic! 😹
If you don't know how to use it it won't do you any good. Ham radios ain't CB radios. Study all you want but if you don't operate, you don't know. If you want to learn to operate you gotta get a license or NOBODY will talk to you. Locals might even hunt you down if you create too much QRM.
Right? Been blowing up cb radio for a couple of years now, talking all over with 800 whiskeys and a mars-modded HF radio. Practicing for the shtf moments when licences don't matter.
Great...excited for more people to get licenced and on the air!
I don't plan on getting licenced. Just getting out is good enough in emergencies.
I'm going to talk to the ones who can't tune a wire to talk anywhere. I will come tune their wires so's they don't use an auto-tuner which simply fools the radio into putting out all the power. Better utilized with a well-tuned antenna system i.e. antenna, feedline, and all meters, amps and jumpers. The electrical length of all these come into play in putting meters in the half-wave multiple to read the right standing wave ratio. And ultimately having the lowest reactance so capacitances and inductances work together rather than against. KEEPIN' THE FIRE IN THE WIRE!!!
with technology i just throw myself in and figure it out :D
You could Fatality but remember even Nellie Orr got her license...😸
i have to think of sustainable power before i get one.
My husband operates off of solar power...
It's worth getting the license to learn all that it can do. ARRL training is thorough and the knowledge is good to have.
Yes, it is. This is an excellent study site for the license.

It depends on what frequency you want to talk on...you can use a wire about 15' off the ground to talk on HF u/photobuf
It is indeed and there are practice tests online that make it easier to test. Our son got his Technicians License when he was 10.
You also learn protocol and etiquette for on the air and people are more helpful when you're not stepping all over them and ticking them off. 😸
Thanks RN!
Ham radio takes a big arse antenna doesn't it?
Thanks!
Mmm … now I want bacon…
Yes...found a kitchen sign that said, "You had me at bacon!" 🥓❤️
