Looks to me like he set himself as his own god in his heart and rejected Jesus. Being raised in a Christian household or community won't prevent this type of sinful outcome if the individual from that community had rejected God and walked away.
Best thing that could happen to him is he finds himself under God's judgement, stripped of all the worldly comforts and things he loves and at a breaking point in the downward spiral of his life seeks Jesus salvation by surrendering to God and being truly redeemed.
