My best friends wife and his 2 kids are going to Washington DC tomorrow for vacation. We are from Oregon. Hes not into conspiracy or political stuff. I told him it was a bad idea. What are your thoughts of this vacation. Is it safe for her to go alone with 2 kids?

Agreed, Smithsonian is there, Lincoln and Washington monuments. Viet Nam wall, lots of other places there and nearby too. National zoo and Air & Space museum. Do some searches, subways are safe, unlike New York.
