We have 36 churches in our village, at the last count. The locals attend church but very few go inside. Most of them sit on the walls and chat. When I asked why, they told me it's because they pay the priest to pray on their behalf, so they don't need to!
Wow! [Shakes head] That's sad. The Orthodox Church here in N CA is filled to the brim with worshippers. Very vibrant and active community.
