The Talmud is partly a history book, but also partly a massive treatise of theology, some portion of which is quite wrong.
In Christianity, “church doctrine” is typically the same thing - a collection of some history and of a mix of opinions and verses, the verses of which may or may not be taken out of context or used as a justification for the opinions that are held by de-nominations.
It’s not the easiest path to go sola scriptura, and many will give that concept lip service, but it’s harder to live that concept out.
