The Democratic National Committee slated former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden to speak during its convention in mid-August.

Not at all. They'll probably have him speak early, before the votes, to cement the fact that he's incapable of running for President. That gives cover for his delegates to vote for somebody else.

The real fireworks will be who ends up being selected.
