The underage victims were probably there to serve the Hollywood sickos who have taken over the SDCC. I started attending that con in the late '90s, back before the celebrities started appearing. Back then, people like Steven J. Sansweet and Matt Groening would be there and they were considered the big names. Then the cast of Lord of the Rings made a surprise appearance in 2000 or so, then Arnold Schwarzenegger, and then it started to become a Hollywood event rather than a comic book event. Then the damned normies began flooding the venue. I had a few comic book retailers tell me that they couldn't sell their comics the way they used to. Then they started having panels for stuff like wrestling and reality shows. Dumb. In the late '90s, you could show up on a Saturday and buy a 1-day ticket. Now, tickets get sold out as soon as they are made available online.
Cosplay also used to be the domain of out-of-shape hardcore fans, and now it seems the traffickers wares are being openly shown under that auspice.
