Ew. I am more or less fine with Romeo and Juliet laws within like, two years or whatever (for those who don't know, these laws protect a couple who were together before one aged to 18) because they would have been within dating pool range in school, but that is where the line ends for me.
Having any form of "variance" to age of consent that specifically allows an adult to interact with a child is repulsive on any level.
The distinction exists and flies over the heads of Predditors and the like, as they will -- in my experience on many occasions -- conflate age of consent with ensuring that a couple isn't forcibly shattered because one turns 18, and so I always feel compelled to preempt that argument.
Otherwise, they end up being obtuse and trying to assert an argument that it should be allowed because "what about if one of them turns 18 free".

I hear you, the intent is probably the issue. A Junior with a Freshman etc. is not unusual etc. Intent again is the mainstay, if people have good intentions with one another then I have no problem with that, however 16, to me is the debatable cut off and then we are off to debate.
