We got a preview in the late 70s/early 80s with the media tagged "Satanic Panic" which probably arose from the Manson crimes of the early 70s.

They called it that when the McMartin Preschool trials fizzled. Turns out an investigation showed there really were tunnels under the school grounds like the children said.

That was Michael Aquino and the Temple of Set in San Francisco. I don't know of any connection of that to McMartin in Manhattan Beach, CA. Not to say definitively there was not.
