There are a couple quotes that come to mind and the MSM is violating both:

“Methinks the MSM doth protest too much”

When you have to project something so much and so forcefully it becomes apparent to your intended audience that your assertions are not sincere.

“If you’re explaining, you’re losing.”

People stop paying attention when you have to repetitively explain why your position is supposedly correct.
