Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
random spiritual thoughts:
q. What's the point of punishment?
a. To correct the wrongdoer and to protect others' lives, freedom and property.
Now ponder "God's wrath", hell, the Mosaic law & the various judgements executed upon Israel and promised upon the heathen nations.
Interesting stuff. I'd venture to say that at no time ever has God executed any form of sadistic, petty and retaliatory, or excessive punishment...contrary to how this world seems to operate, though thankfully it's not as bad since the founding of America has given the world a better example of how to deal in justice. (please ignore the current corruptions and think on the intent of the Constitution as well as the progresses made by following it, to whatever degree, throughout America's history...)
There are however countless instances of man executing what can only be called travesty and abominations, under the banner of "doing God's justice".
This is what happens when man doesn't know or understand the spirit of the law, yet has the letter. While it's probably better than "do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" aka anarchy, it still ends up in a world of bloody injustice.
A similar travesty, though less bloody, can be observed in the current American landscape, with its countless statutes, policies, etc. It has been slowly transformed into a beurocratic mess, or swamp, and praise God for Trump, Q team and all patriots who are fighting to purify it! The American legal code needs a pruning and sorting of epic proportions.
Anyways just some thoughts that came to me.

I still think Old testament God is not the same as the God taught by Jesus.
I disagree with this, rather that Jesus was revealing the one and the same God's true nature, which was hidden to the double-minded and the compromised alike, hence why they were called "blind guides" when Jesus hit the scene. They had eyes but couldn't see, ears but couldn't hear.
Example: the Eye for an Eye doctrine was meant for the State to enact upon the people in a court of law. However, many took it to mean "if he stole from me, I'll do it back to him!"
God was in a war with satan and had to preserve some remnant of pure Israel seed to fulfill His promise of the Messiah, so that took priority over morality, seemingly. But the morals of God were still present, though cloaked behind a veil of strict judgement, and oftenly misunderstood.
Anyways, God tolerated this misunderstanding for a long time, yet Jesus came and revealed the rest of it. "...But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." Matt. 5:39
"Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things." Rom. 2:1
Still doesn't explain some things in old testament, like for instance the obsession with the specific ways to sacrifice to the God. New testament God has no such requirements.
