To be fair, an "American" is truly any perspn from this hemisphere. Mexicans and Canadians are "North Americans" while anyone from South of the equator, i.e. Perú, Brazil etc is South American. Yes words matter and they should be called what they are... Chinese, Haitian, African and East Asian.
