Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Having a pinch of vinegar in warm water when you wake up. My mil had the same problem for a long time and this solved it.
You can also drink lemon juice with a pinch of baking soda instead of the soda drinks. Contrary of what we think, this also helps balance the acidity!
When it comes to salt, use natural salts like Himalayan pink salt or Celtic salt etc. Make sure it has both sodium and potassium, and trace amounts of tons of other minerals. Then, firstly the food will taste better and secondly you go from white salt thats poison to natural salt thats good for your body.
I even put a few grains of the salt in my water. I can't drink water any other way anymore.
But in a bigger picture - whats your diet like? I find that acid reflux seems to hit people who have been put on medical diets (like no meat, no dairy etc) more often.
Make sure you keep your gut bacteria healthy. This means consuming yogurt, yakult, kimchi, saurkraut, natto etc.
Aside from staying away from the major soda brands (If I do have a soda it's something that has very little ingredients. Olipop is a good one) I only have coffee every three days and it's one regular 12 oz mug size. Fast food I generally stay away from seeing as how I can make a damn good burger and whatnot for cheaper and healthier. I try to hit my 55g of protein a day by either eating chicken or another lean meat. For sides I generally have an avocado (I cut that sucker in half, score and eat), sliced peppers, or a spud. For drinks it's either water or OJ with Tonic water (with quinine). Generally for other vitamins and minerals I have multi-vitamins and garlic pills.
Oh and I will occasionally indulge in Linguine with Clam sauce. Simple Italian recipe that has no butter. Just Olive oil, a hit of water, garlic, clam juice, pepper, salt, and parsley for color. Oh and white wine. Can't forget that.
