Cracks me up— grew up in NOLA running behind “ mosquito spraying trucks” as a kid- moved to Texas became a taxidermist and got some kind of encephalitis from some kind of wildlife— my small town GP gave me a muscle relaxer for intense head/ neck pain and I was fine in a day or so—so sad to see the human race has become so biologically fragile— I’m still tougher than nails — what happened?
Early 1960s, southern Illinois, the city sprayed DDT regularly throughout the summer to kill mosquitoes. My parents had to cover the car with a sheet because the spray affected the paint job. The humid air was still thick with the scent the next morning when we went out to play. I think some of that DDT is still stored in my fat cells, and you never forget that odor.
