Early 1960s, southern Illinois, the city sprayed DDT regularly throughout the summer to kill mosquitoes. My parents had to cover the car with a sheet because the spray affected the paint job. The humid air was still thick with the scent the next morning when we went out to play. I think some of that DDT is still stored in my fat cells, and you never forget that odor.
