I've wondered that too.

I guess it's so we can imagine him looking like Yearick when he grew up. If there were recent photos, we could be sure he either was or wasn't the shooter when we compared his picture to the rooftop body.

Well to be fair, the one photo when they were talking about the guys taking a picture of him when Crooks was leaning on that wall, did look a lot more like Thomas Crooks with long hair.
