Free speech is a misnomer. Nothing is ever truly "free."
The author is correct, though, in that the Bill of Rights only protects us against governmental tyranny, not privately owned corps(es) deciding how best to run their companies. Including this one. I really don't care if any privately held corp(se) decides to make rules that inhibit what one can say. That's their right under the U.S. Constitution. This fairly recent push to label anything and everything as an infrnlingmenet on someone's rights is all just a push to garner more power for those who already rule over us with an iron hand.
I was recently given a ban for what I assume was something that offended someone (probably a mod I offended, or one of the many sidebarred rules we have here), and I really don't care about what it was I said. It was my right to say it, and equally the mod's right to ban me for 3 days for the offense. I took that lump, didn't complain, and here I am, back again to say what I will and possibly suffer the consequence. I didn't even attempt to contact any mods to try to argue my position. First, because I reply to a bunch of posts here and really didn't know what it was I said that could've been construed as offensive, nor did I care to trace back thru the hundreds of comments I've made over the last few years. (What's already been said has been said and can't be taken back, so why bother arguing with someone who's principled enough to back themselves up by handing out a 3-day ban for an offending comment?) Second, our speech here isn't free (there are always consequences for actions taken, even if we can't see them at the time we commit an offense) and I understood that when I came here right after VOAT died. VOAT was about the freest place on the Internet at the time, next to the chans, and even it had censorship rules everyone had to follow. Why should GAW be any different?
People have become too pussified over the last 40 yrs, and it shows.
Mods, good on you guys for policing this site like you do. Truly, kudos to you for doing a thankless and tiring job, keeping us together and on our toes, and handing out punishments when it's warranted. Keep it up. It's a big reason why I keep coming back and is about the only site I regularly make comments on.
When internet first shows up and the chat rooms were opened, I went in there to look and see what is happening and the chat rooms were free for all without any type of censorship (or so it seems).
Did you know how offensive the people in there were? They acted like bunch of animals as far as I am concerned.
