In all fairness, it was Rehoboth Beach and nobody there has any real interest in an elderly, dementia ridden man. He's just not their type.

The point is that he’s making excuses for being out in public because his life is in danger. A crowded beach with people coming and going isn’t exactly an easily defensible position.
