DON'T FORGET your voter ID to vote in NC! If you are under 65 it has to be current, a Federal ID is ok even if it is expired. The County BOE can give you an ID if you don't have one. Every poll worker should be checking your name and date of birth on a license or passport just in case to make sure it is accurate. (Unfortunately many did not during the primary). A current passport or driver's license is ok and the address doesn't have to match your current address. You may have to provide proof of living in your currrent home to register to vote (utility bill etc.)
Only those who are over 65 with an expired passport or license expired can use it as voter ID if that document expired the day of their 65th birthday or later. Each county decides which other ID's they will allow. In our county they did not approve any county worker IDs, but some IDs from a Community College were cleared prior to the primaries.
I'm a Republican poll worker in NC and have to vote early since I don't work in my own precinct on election day. I typically wait and vote early the last day I am working. But I may vote the first day I'm working this time.
