My Father who was a GI in Europe for almost half of 1944 and most of 1945, told me that the Red Cross would charge GI's for coffee and donuts near the end of the war and pass out free parcels to German soldiers.
That just never sat well with him and he had nothing good to say about the RC and would never donate when they would come around.
