My Pop was a WWII vet and the three things he hated the most about his service were officers, the VA and the Red Cross. He told me that the “ donut dollies” charged the GIs for a cup of coffee. The “sallies” (Salvation Army and yes, I know they’ve gone woke) gave away sweaters, socks and coffee for free.
