Its not a huge audience, so ur not going to have a thunderous applause
It looks like a dinner type thing, so who is going to put their fork down and clap or yell when they have a mouth full of food?
Soft background = absorbs sounds
Add to that the reverb your hear when they are clapping = mics pointed away from audience
