I only went to Waffle House one time, years ago. I was disappointed, it tasted like the oil was rancid.
But I can make some mean waffles. I call them Awe-full waffles, they are awe inducing.
Not really, they're just regular waffles. I do add malt to the mix, which helps crisp up the outsides. And add blueberries, yum. Real butter and real maple syrup.
My mom used to make toaster waffles ice cream sandwiches. So good. I tried to make that for my kids but they weren't impressed. I guess they like their breakfast and dessert separated.
Even before covid, prices were going up. I managed a little grocery store and it was impossible not to raise prices, and also buy lower grade produce, when our warehouse prices were going up and up. This was before covid. Add in increased min. wages, and the increases in utilities. And the cut the banks take from credit card fees. And then, let whoever whenever steal stuff by the cartful. And pay out of pocket to replace damage from break-ins (windows, till, safes, doors, etc) because they don't want their insurance to go up...which doesn't help, cause their insurance goes up anyway. I feel for business, even the chains, it's hard to stay afloat in this political economy.
Two years ago I went there (begrudgingly) with my vet friend, and ordered what I always do, the hashbrowns all the way. They tasted heavily of detergent. I felt sick and thought i was being poisoned by thm
I knew what they did, they sprayed teh griddle with speedball and didn't wash it with water. Fucking gross. I should have gotten a to-go box, had the food analyzed, made a press story of it and then maybe even sued them into shutting down their restaurant
I can assure you that this WILL happen next time. Why do I keep going? Because my vet friend for some reason won't go to other restaurants (like a little kid watching tomas the train), even if they cost the same money....or even if I"M PAYING

Maybe your friend is on the spectrum and that place is his is his safe place and routine.
Maybe eat before you go with him and then just order coffee. Can they screw up coffee?
