Not American myself, but this could be useful EVERYWHERE:
Before you want to apply solutions there are problems to DEFINE and recognise is that problem or not.
And before doing something we shall get rid of those stinky Cabal wanting to kill and enslave us. Worldwide, but your part as Americans is USA isn't it ?
Not American so not US Army Veteran too,but what US Army teaches US soldiers about solving problems too ? Indeed: You have more than you know :)
u/penisse : 3d printer is not so revolutionary technology - but nevertheless it is great like having any cnc machine - or greater.
3D printer is "additive manufacturing" (building from available material like building anything from lego) when CNC is "subtractive manufacturing " (removing unnecessary material). All those technologies have advantages and disadvantages, possible niches etc for now. But great things can be done. Really great ones.
Most 3d printers do it with plastic, but some with vax (so: metal moulding if you have tools and know about it a bit and...) or even with metal. As you live in USA - so quite far away form me (Poland) I will tell you for what it is/can be really great: making prototypes and hard to obtain spare parts. Kind of "business of tomorrow" or market niche - small individualized production. This can be source of some $ but of course - it is not 100% sure,it is market and market is people choices.
Thing about 3d printing: Cost of production if it is plastic or metal powder and ready product can be of course VERY high so - model for moulding or rare spare part/ kind of designer "artistic products" for client. Not for the things you can find in every wallmart for sure ;) But I know for example some people in USA are doing components for magazines and other elements of AR-15 using 3d printing and if it can be gun parts it can be many other spare parts too. Of course for big scale of production would be injection moulding machine if we talk about plastic, but small scale or starting selling new things ? Some plastic (or other elements if possibe) to old cars ? Or complicated things ?
But good thing is with minor cheap things you don't have to be good with design,as cheap available AIs for graphics can do some lower/normal quality "art" and most things you shall do is changing things a bit - and you can have models or ready products potentially very good on the market. "Star wars figure shit and stop" is proof of the lack of creativity of your neighbours. Bit of effort and they would have individual star-wars laptop casing, car decorations much better than most of cheap stickers or who know what else... Ok.Not everything is possible now technology is still costly - but it can give great results... Because such 3d printing is really return of craftmanship on the new - and available level in our world dominated by mass produced goods. And it is great.
But the problem (or opportunity) your neighbours have no imagination and no creativity.
u/Joby14212 : our natural intelligence is much better. So as u/TSearch says.

Also look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cms_v_OUXco Of course it is rather AI+Human design and it still can have problems but...
