My story isn't as detailed, but I have personally met people from Central America who have told me that NGO reps travel the country and openly offer to purchase children, promising a better life for them in the U.S.
The first time I heard it, I was doubtful and discounted it as being some type of exaggeration, but after hearing it repeatedly began to wonder what was behind it all. Time on GAW has made clear the motivations and operations that I couldn't (and didn't want to) figure out before. These people are evil.
My sister in law adopted a child from Guatamala who was only 2 years old at the time. His parents had literally sold him to the adoption agency. They already had a few other kids but could not afford to raise this child
He was one of the more fortunate kids to be sold. I can only imagine how many children have been sold off as sex slaves or worse.
My sister and her husband have raised him into a fine young man who only recently finished trade school to become an electrician.

I admire those who adopt and care for children as you describe. I have family that adopted as well.
But the practice of purchasing children nevertheless has ... issues.
