Since platforms like Fakebook, Goog, and others were actually created by DARPA with our money is it possible to drag them back as public owned? The people that were fleeced to create them to spy on us never agreed to have them given away to the toadies that control them.

I agree, but when you own them you can change the way they operate. As long as they are controlled by the likes of Zuck they will be spying. If nothing else they should be completely eliminated, but that would be a sore spot for many Americans.
Their value in connecting people and providing human interaction with others can be a positive for society if the spying can be shut down. Their popularity alone shows how starved most people are for the interaction.
They are a poor substitute for actual human contact, but for many they are the only venue.
