You know a bit about dueling... but idiotically think dueling would completely replace the legal system? Who said anything about that? Also, you just assume dueling was only done with firearms. Wrong again. Dueling predates the invention of firearms by centuries.
Dueling was a way to settle personal grievances not covered by the law. Also, it did not have to be to the death. It could instead be fought to "first blood", etc.
It led to a much more polite society, since stupid behavior had potentially serious consequences. Of course, weak people fear any of that type of personal accountability. Relax. I doubt it would ever be reintroduced, so you don't have to be afraid.
