Programs like that are an excellent idea. They educate the prisoners to respect and care for animals. The prisoners then learn to care for other people.

These programs can assist in the rehabilitation of the prisoners into functioning members of society, breaking the cycle of repeat offending.

Here is a link from 24 August 2017,to an Australian prison program, with prisoners caring for native wildlife.
