I am the same re: Discernment, while I have never been to a Church where I agreed with everything they did, I managed to find some Wheat in the Chaff. I knew some Wiccans and Church of Satan types, who seemed like screwballs, I doubt the Church of Satan people were more than LARPING. Scientology, I read Dianetics when I was a teen, but wasn't interested in getting involved, there's some science for sure, but the religion is well... Clearwater Beach is a very Nice beach and Scientology has a big building there, so I assume a strong presence.
I grew up Southern Baptist, but not the ones who danced with rattlesnakes and drank strychnine... Heh, Our Church was called Friendship Baptist and I give them credit for my trying to live as a decent person. Reverand Harwood Steele, he could preach for hours sometimes! My grandfather dropped us off then came and picked us up. He would wait across the street because he was a smoker, and get pissed when we got out so very late sometimes. " If he can't say what he needs to in an hour, he should shut the hell up!" We were taught not to be racist and went on field trips to see the migrant workers who picked oranges and worked in the truck farms and foliage greenhouses that were NW of Orlando in those days. Lake Apopka had a lot of vegetable farms nearby and the fertilizer polluted the lake. The government bought out the farms and the cleanup of the lake is ongoing even 50+ years later. Before the farms Lake Apopka was the Bass Fish Capital of the World.
