The US managed to have a sub sink while docked at a pier in 1969
USS Guitarro (SSN-665)
You are correct. It was an interesting read on how it sank. Human error while two separate groups of workers filling up ballast tanks and not communicating with each other lead to a lot of water pouring into the boat via an open hatch. What was jaw dropping was the damage caused to the boat was only $15M or so. If that were to happen today the cost would be astronomical. Thanks for easing back the curtain to some interesting history.
