Gone are the days of a strong leader willing to fire unionized workers who strike (just because they're greedy) in order to keep this country functioning.
Instead, our (s)elected "leaders" are willing to sacrifice everyone to the altar of self-rightwous indignation of the "oppressor class of white, Euro-Christian descendant Alpha Males."
I know things look rough right now, and everyone wants to have more money for more trinkets. HOWEVER, this line of thinking comes at the cost of everyone else downrange. The port and dock workers make more than enough money. I know some dock workers who make well over $50/hr on a 36 hr unionized work week, who make over time pay at $75/hr after 38 hrs, and $100/hr double time pay for Federal holidays and work weeks over 52 hrs.
One of the worst things we ever did as a people was to let Hoffa, et al. (aka, Sicilian Mafia) determine how the unions function.
These unions need to be made aware that they CANNOT hold this country hostage just because [they] want a few more "silver shekels" in their pockets.
Most dock work positions are still classified as unskilled labor by the US Labor Dept, yet these fuckers get paid more than any LEOs, our military (all the way up to the 0-7 level), and the managers can and regularly do make more than most doctors and lawyers. I know unionized dock workers who drive fucking brand new Maseratis, Porsches, etc.
So, spare me the bullshit arguments about how they just want what's rightfully theirs.
Fire them all and hire new workers at a more reasonable rate of $20/hr. After all, if it's ok for an unskilled McDonald's worker, it should be perfectly fine for an unskilled pallet jack driver at a U.S. port.
