Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Frens, need some advice please.
Hubby and I are slowly trying to pay off our credit cards (we have 2 cc's), I actually pay over the minimum monthly payment by a few hundred dollars each, each month. And they are coming down but one of them has a high interest rate, but if we call and ask them to lower it, would it change negatively on our credit score? They would probably say no anyway, they wouldn't have any reason to not lower it except their creed because I always pay before due date and pay more than expected. So, I wondered if it would be better to see about getting a lower rated credit card from our bank/credit union and transfer the amount, then cut up that card because I don't plan on using it again. The cards we owe on are 2 of the big cc/bank companies. On the one cc I was thinking to transfer over is at like 21% & the other is like 15%. I guess we could ask both card companies if they will lower our rates.
Or should I wait a few more months and see what happens when Trump gets in office? Because with all the banks that where having issues not long ago, I wasn't sure what would happen and/or if Trump pulls some surprise out of his hat regarding credit cards. He's been coming out with more no tax on things or being able to claim car interest charges on our taxes. Don't know, things are crazy right now, don't know what will happen next in this movie we are living in.
What do y'all think?
Wait a few months.. don’t be anxious and just keep doing same for now in terms of payments. Just pay down 200 plus interest for now
Ok, thanks!
Find you a 0% card and transfer the balance, pay the fee, then commit to paying it off before the 0% period is up (usually 12 to 18 months). Repeat if necessary. Buy silver.
