I am American and of Italian ancestory and did 40mg to 50mg of iodine a day for three months to heal my thyroid.
A few doctors have stated people w hashimotos can take iodine but you do need to be careful, very much so if you have graves. Complicated issue and you got to listen to your body.
Copper is intrinsic to the t2, t3, etc.
Re iodized salt, they always use NaCl as there salt and thatcis a BIG problem. But interesting what you said. On the other hand why do such a huge % of people have hypothyroidism? I say lack of iodine, not iodized salt.
But we both speak from experience so I respect your opinion. Hope we all can heal. Stay well.
Lack of iodine is what causes the majority of hypo cases in 3rd world countries, but Hashimoto's is what causes 90-97% of hypothyroidism cases in America. So it's an autoimmune problem, caused by our diet, environmental toxins (think plastics), leaky gut, and our genetics.
Iodine is still tricky for me. Obviously I know I need at least a little, but it seems if I push it too far my body backfires and gets worse. I've been doing way better with ancient sea salt without iodine, and my adrenals love the stuff.
I hope you also find the best path to healing, and I hope we really can Make America Healthy Again! MAHA all the way!
