An excellent question we should all ask ourselves, really.

How does an evil person not only recognize the evil in themselves, but also see it as vile and something to be rooted out with great effort and sobriety?

Any suggestions, GAW?

My opinion - testing it against the definitions of Sin and Love, line by line, and working to remove Sin and add Love.

Unfortunately the church doesn’t like teaching the definitions of sin in a logically consistent method, so now we have the rejection of sin defined as sin because it isn’t tolerant.

Right, yea God's word is where I immediately go. Also, the Holy Spirit convicts us and reveals the sins even we are unaware of.
