My friend and her punk friends are refusing to vote for either candidate. I find that to be a win!
She is my only left friend or family member I can actually have conversations with without anger or getting heated. Its actually so nice to have a normal, kind convo.
That's great news. I hate that many "punk leftie" got played into the identity politics. She refuses to vote Trump because she identifies as a punk and doesn't wanna sell out. If she just gets rid of all these nuance she'd be able to think more clearly.
She can see we agree on quite a bit of things. Anti establishment stuff
A lot of actual leftists I know hate Kamala. They're saying she basically sold out her base to appeal to moderate Republicans and there's no point in even voting for her now. Seems like Harris is banking on them turning out to defeat Trump, but those kinds of voters don't really care about personality and decorum as much.
Very true!
That mentality is great but tell her this - If your house is on fire and you have to pick between 2 firemen. one is ugly but great at putting out fire, the other is just plain dumb, and she's allergic to ugly, whcih fireman would she pick?
Or another analogy would be whether she votes or not, just know that all of us (everyone she likes and dislikes) are on the same damn airplane with the same pilot. So either help us choose a pilot to fly this plane safely or crash and burn together.
Cause/effect: Social Engineering. Perhaps bring up examples of how the entire punk rock music scene both mainstream and underground was infiltrated and co-opted during the 2005-2010 era and folded into the greater social experiment commonly known as HIPSTERS.
Coming from a formerly crusty punk background, I remember watching all of the local scenes gradually die and get turned into this giant amalgam of social engineered garbage.
The desired effect was to eliminate all of the independent cliques and groups of identity and turn it all into one big singular collective that way it could be sold to the current gen as "you can be anything you want, you can look any way you want, were all individuals...." but that was the free cheese in the mouse trap. The trap was that they eliminated a good portion of what it means to become an individual with unique taste and talent.
In short, they used social engineering to co-opt all of the individual art and music scenes and successfully turn a majority of those interested in such into the BORG. Good little golems always do as they are told by big daddy govt.
Thanks for the clarification. I'll have to save this.
I grew up in a time when HOT TOPIC was their dress code and piercings and tattoos are must have accessories. In the end they're still trapped in the herd mentality despite following the anarchist dream.
That's actually an excellent segway, Hot Topic that is. It was the beginning of the consumer element to the social engineering. Marketing what was once labeled as identity to quote Polly Styrene, to the normie masses.
Anyone who was active in any alternative music scenes circa mid 90s to mid 00s can easily recognize how the whole thing was hijacked and used by nefarious forces to destroy creativity and individuality in the alt spaces to allow for all of the flair to become the default modern day extreme leftist image.
I appreciate your perspective, it helps to get an insight into the culture because I was just her preppy friend that listened to music with her.
