I’m a poll worker in NC and have currently been working early voting at one of our counties early voting sites.
The last two days I worked I registered two new voters. The 70 year old woman I registered to vote today has never voted in any election before in her life. We usually ask which party on the registration form they wish to be registered with. She wanted Republican. Yesterday another lady in her 60’s registered to vote for the first. She also wanted to be registered as a Republican. Two fellows in their thirties registered as Republicans and most likely voted as Republicans for the first time ever.
Last week the two days of early voting I registered a Hispanic citizen to vote and she wanted to be listed as Republican, too.
There were several others who registered to vote as Republican, last week, too.
Yes, we’ve had some registering to vote as Dems but the majority of them coming into our polling place are registering to vote as Republicans.
Are you in a red or blue part of the state? Urban, suburban, exurban or rural?
Rural and relatively poor red county in the Bible Belt. There is a large population of registered Dem Black voters in the precinct I’ve always worked on Election Day.
I’m always been the only Republican and only Caucasian working at that precinct. Met one of the Black chief justices early on when I started working the early voting polls that year and she must have liked me enough to ask me to work her precinct. I’ve been working that precinct ever since.
I think I'm close. I think I can hear you typing
